Lights show local unity against domestic violence

Have you noticed the purple lights in front of the courthouse and in the windows of local businesses? Are you wondering what the lights are for? They have nothing to do with the Halloween festivities; instead they are there because October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Purple is the symbolic color of domestic violence awareness and the lights are part of an effort to draw attention to the issue. The Charlotte House is taking part in the Purple Light Nights campaign for the second year in a row.

The purpose of the lights and the project is to send a consistent message and develop public awareness of the problem, as well as remembering the victims, those who have survived, and those still living with abuse.

Anyone requiring the services of The Charlotte House, either for themselves or someone they know, may call 795-6401 during business hours, or 795-6400 for the 24 hour hotline.
