The Wahkiakum Mules made the trip to Pe Ell last Friday and came home with a satisfying 28-14 win over the Trojans to go 3-0 in Central League football.
Pe Ell's Lorenzo Avalos opened the game with a 94-yard touchdown run on the first play of the game, but from there on, the Mules running game took control. The Mules ran 18 plays in the first quarter, 17 on the ground, and took a 7-6 lead Zack Schneider's five-yard run at 9:52. Lars Blix kicked the first of his four conversion kicks of the night for the lead.
The Mules scored twice in the second quarter. Brandon Fudge completed a 12-yard pass play to Bryce McClain for a touchdown at 11:53, and linebacker Ty Bain scored on a seven-yard fumble return at 4:31.
Avalos scored on a four yard run just before halftime to cut the Mules' lead to 21-14.
In the third quarter, Fudge hit Zach Pierce for a 44-yard touchdown pass play.
The Mules gained 319 yards on 54 rushing plays and 94 yards as Fudge completed four of six passes. Schneider led the rushing with 163 yards on 22 carries; McClain gained 102 yards on 15 runs, and Joel Nicolazzi had 27 yards on 11 runs.
The Mules were lost 80 yards on10 penalties; the Trojans had one penalty for five yards.
The 3-2 Napavine Tigers come to Cathlamet this Friday. They lost 47-20 at Goldendale last Saturday.
