The Wahkiakum Mules shook off their tethers at halftime and rolled to a 34-7 Central League football win over the Vancouver Lights last Friday at Camas.
The Lights scored on their opening drive and kicked the conversion for a 7-0 lead at 5:36 of the first quarter.
The Mules responded with a scoring drive, with quarterback Brandon Fudge running the ball in from the three yard line. The conversion try failed, and the Mules trailed 7-6 at halftime.
The second half was all Mules. They scored twice in the third quarter and twice in the fourth quarter.
Bryce McClain put the Mules up 12-7 with a 13-yard run at 9:43 of the third quarter. Fudge made it 18-7 with a 1-yard run at 2:05 of the third, and Zach Schneider ran the two-point conversion for a 20-7 Mule lead.
At 7:20 of the fourth quarter Joel Nicolazzi returned a Lights punt 30 yards for a touchdown, and McClain scored on a nine-yard run at 1:53 of the fourth quarter.
The Mules gained 314 yards on the ground; Vancouver Christian picked up 193. Neither team completed a pass.
Schneider led the Mule runners with 154 yards on 19 carries; McClain had 73 yards on 10 rushed, and Nicolazzi had 14 yards on three runs.
The Mules head to Pe Ell this Friday to take on the Trojans.
