The Wahkiakum Mule football team traveled to Corbett, Ore., last Friday and came home with a 27-7 non-league victory.
The Mules opened the scoring in the second quarter with a 30-yard touchdown pass play from Joel Fudge to Jordan Fritsch.
In the third quarter, Bryce McClain scored on an 18-yard run.
Joel Nicolazzi ran for touchdowns of 55 and eight yards in the fourth quarter to give the Mules a 27-0 lead.
The hosts got their score against the Mule reserves. Overall, the Mule defense held Corbett to negative rushing yardage and 68 passing yards.
The Mules piled up 275 yards on the ground and 48 yards in the air.
Nicolazzi led the Mule charge with 92 yards on nine runs. McClain picked up his 82 yards on 15 runs; Zack Schneider had 52 yards on 14 carries.
On defense, Wyatt Parker, Jeff Vik and James Goldsmith intercepted Corbett passes. Luke Thomason had six tackles and eight assists, with four tackles for loss. Ryan Helms had 4/2, Jeff Vik 3/1, and McClain, Cameron Elliott and Ty Bain all 2/3.
Mule Coach Eric Hansen complimented the play of the defensive line, Fritsch, Elliott, Brett Chaput and Mike Paulsen, and of linebackers Bain and Thomason.
The Mules entertain the Toutle Lake Ducks this Friday, 7 p.m. in their first home game of the season.
