Heirloom treasures show opens Sept. 20

On September 20 from 2-5 p.m. the Appelo Archive Center in Naselle will host the opening of a special display on historic handwork art, "Heirloom Treasures," featuring pieces on loan from local families.

Some of the local artists represented include Tim Bates, Kaisa Saari, Pat Vernon, Nancy Wirkkala and others. Naselle has a strong Finnish heritage and many of the pieces on display are of Finnish origin or from Finnish descendants.

The area's heritage of handmade art means many families enjoy historic handwork done by their relatives that are family keepsakes. These "heirloom treasures" tell important stories and teach family history to younger generations.

At the opening, of the new display, Bryan Penttila and Donna Klint, both on the archives center staff, will also be present to sign their books and answer any questions. Audrey Wirkkala, also on staff, gathered the items and set up the display. This special display will be available to the public through October. There is no cost to visit the Archives Center, but donations are most welcome.
