Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Ashley Eckert, 24, is the new part-time Coordinator at the Chamber of Commerce office and contributing member of the Bald Eagle Days celebration.
Eckert grew up in Rainier, Oregon, and graduated from Rainier High School. She now lives in Kelso and commutes to Cathlamet.
She worked in the title and escrow end of the real estate market and now works part time for Wahkiakum Title and Escrow in downtown Cathlamet. When the Chamber coordinator job, opened, she said she found it was a natural fit.
“I’ve been to this area four or five times,” Eckert said, “and I love it.”
Eckert said she loves the outdoors, and one of her goals is to get out and meet people in the area. “It will help me learn about the county,” she said.
Eckert has assisted in helping to reorganize the Chamber office and said she thinks she brings a youthful attitude and energy to the job.
“I am a neat freak,” she said, “and like order and people.”
“I really have enjoyed helping plan the Bald Eagles Day celebration.”
Along with her duties as the Chamber coordinator, Eckert sits on the children’s sidewalk arts logistics committee for Bald Eagle Days. The plan this year will be to coordinate with the Wahkiakum Historical Museum volunteers to organize the art entries and award prizes.
Eckert said her future plans are to move to Wahkiakum and attend college in Longview.
