Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
The fair board and I are delighted to congratulate Pacific Tech for winning the bid to design and build the new fairgrounds arena! This marks a new era for the fairgrounds, a fresh start, helping our community continue in one of its century old traditions.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate one of our fair volunteers. For many years Deb Gribskov has been active in the community, volunteering her time as a 4-H leader and fair superintendent for poultry. As well as her volunteer work, Deb is also a Math and Science teacher at the Monticello Middle School in Longview and was recently awarded the Crystal Apple Award by the Kelso Longview Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation.
Congratulations Deb and thank you for your dedication and hard work.
Our 101st fair is not far on the horizon so get ready to celebrate and enjoy our ‘Country Roots and Barnyard Boots’. This year we’re bringing back some old favorites, including the dance after fair on Friday night! That’s right; all creatures great and small are welcome to join in on the fair dance, scheduled for the Grange Hall after the fair closes on August 21.
Friday also happens to be kid’s day, so what better time to hold a bunny hop race? Maybe a three legged race as well? I’ve even heard rumors of an egg and spoon challenge, but you’ll have to come to fair to find out.
A new arena, new vendors, new games, what more could you want? Mark your calendars now, as this year’s fair is one you won’t want to miss.
If you’d like to become involved with the fair or have an idea on how the fair can be improved, get in touch. You can send an email to wahkiakumfair@centurytel.net or call the fair office at 795 3480.
