Bingham, Doumit, win state titles

Wahkiakum Mules Jasmine Bingham and Sarah Doumit each won championships at the Class 2B State Track and Field Meet last weekend at Cheney.

Bingham won the 100m, 12.91, and 200m, 26.38, and long jump, 17'3", a new school record, and Doumit won the high jump, 5'3".

The pair were also members of the 800m relay team with Abby Burns and Shelby Deaton which placed second in 1:49.84. The team finished fourth in the preliminaries at 1:50.48 and boosted their time to place second.

Bingham's long jump was 15" over her previous best jump, 16'. The previous WHS record was 17'1" held by Marcy Tarabochia, 1990, and Michelle Thomas, 1985. Bingham ran faster in her 100m preliminary, 12.81, and 200m preliminary, 25.86, which was a new WHS record.

Also for the Mules, Amanda Collier placed 12th in the javelin at 92'5".

Colfax won the team championship with 57 points; Wahkiakum was second with 48, and White Pass and Evergreen Lutheran tied for third with 36.

"It was hot over there, but the Mule girls were hotter," commented Mule Coach Mike Riley. "They were on fire getting second place at the state track meet."

For the Mule boys, the 400m relay team of Bryce McClain, Phillip Doumit, Jake Goldsmith and Riley Prestegard placed eighth in 45.77 to earn medals. They were sixth in the preliminaries at 45.6.

Prestegard finished ninth in the 100m preliminaries at 11.81 and didn't advance to the finals. The eighth place runner's time was 11.80. Prestegard finished 13th in the 200m preliminaries at 24.33.

McClain placed 10th in the preliminaries of the 400m at 53.95 and didn't qualify for the finals.

Brett Chaput finished 12th in the discus at 109'1", and Shay Bingham finished 14th in the pole vault at 10'.
