Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
It is time to begin the annual Bald Eagle Days planning meetings with the first meeting held on April 7 at 5:30 p.m. in the Scarborough Building, in Cathlamet. This year, the festival will be held on July 17 and 18; the Wooden Boat Show will follow on July 19.
Chamber members and interested community members are encouraged to attend the Bald Eagle Days planning meetings to provide ideas and choose activities for the event. One of the first tasks of the planning committee is to select the theme and nominate candidates for the Grand Marshal. They will also begin identifying activities such as the Dunk Tank and Side Walk Art Contests which were popular last year. One of the most popular parts of the annual festival is the Kids’ Area and organizers will be looking for new ideas for this year’s kids contests.
Bald Eagle planning meetings are usually held twice a month until June and then are held more often as needed until July 17. In the past, meetings have been held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays but will be held on Tuesday nights this year, pending feedback.
Volunteers are needed for many aspects of the festival. Those who can’t attend this opening meeting or want to provide input can call the Chamber office at 795-3996 or send an email to wchamber@cni.net. More information is available at the Chamber’s temporary web site at http://www.cathlametchamber.com.
