Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Seattle jazz band Hot Club Sandwich will play at the Skamokawa Grange on April 18 at 7 p.m. The six member band features the instrumentation of guitars, upright bass, mandolin and violin. With songs composed by greats such as Hoagy Carmichael, Irving Berlin, and Gus Kahn the group promises an evening that captures the spirit of bands from the early 20th century.
Besides playing standards such as If I Had You, and I’ll See You in my Dreams, Hot Club Sandwich will display its influences from Latin string band music and acoustic rhythms – several members have performed internationally and incorporate those experiences in the jazz melodies. The evening at the grange will include the band's own compositions as well as a presentation of several Django Reinhardt compositions.
This program is sponsored by Cathlamet’s Pioneer Community Association, Wahkiakum Community Network, Cathlamet Woman’s Club, Kiwanis Club of Cathlamet, and Lower Columbia Realty, LLC. A grant from the state of Washington initiated by the PCA will make it possible for the band to perform at the schools of Wahkiakum and Naselle for a clinic/assembly experience.
Tickets for the Saturday evening at the Skamokawa Grange are $10 for adults and $8 for youth 12 and under. For tickets and information, call 795-3568, contact Lower Columbia Realty in Cathlamet, or write the PCA, PO Box 24, Cathlamet, WA 98612. Remaining seats will be sold at the door.
