Mule boys top Adna 68-66 in overtime
The Wahkiakum Mule boys basketball team faced some tough Central League opponents this week, losing two games to league leaders but picking an overtime win Tuesday at home.
The Mules and Adna Pirates finished regulation time tied 60-60, and the Mules outscored the Pirates 8-6 in overtime to win.
Troy Howard made a three-point shot with five seconds left to provide the winning margin.
Cody Olsen led the Mule scoring with 23 points. Howard had 21, Brad Pugh nine, Blake Anderson eight, Chase Fritzie five and Ty Bain four.
Fritize had 10 rebounds and blocked three shots. Bain made eight assists and had seven rebounds. Olsen had five assists.
On January 16, the Napavine Tigers handed the Mules a 68-48 loss in the Mule gym. The Tigers used their quickness to force turnovers and convert the possessions into a 22-8 first quarter lead. The Mules trailed 35-20 at halftime and never could catch up.
Olsen and Fritzie each had 10 points, Howard seven, Ryan Helms six, Anderson five, Pugh three, Bryce Hilzer two and Bain one.
Blake Anthony scored 24 for the Tigers, eight in the first quarter.
The Mules made 31 percent of their two points shots and 19 percent of their three-pointers. Napavine shot 52 percent in two point shots and 10 percent from three-point range.
On January 17, the Mules lost 60-50 at Toutle Lake. The Ducks led 13-6 after one quarter and 31-24 at halftime. They outscored the Mules 13-9 in the third quarter to lead 44-33 going into the fourth quarter.
Olsen led the scoring with 24 points; Fritzie had nine, Bain eight, Hilzer four, Howard three and Helms two.
