Mules split league games

The Wahkiakum Mule boys basketball team lost 58-51 in Adna last Saturday and held on to defeat the Pe Ell Trojans 70-67 in Cathlamet on Tuesday.

The Mules led 26-24 at halftime in Adna, but the Pirates turned up the defensive pressure in the third quarter and outscored the Mules 16-9 in the third quarter and 18-16 in the fourth.

Bain led the Mule scoring with 15 points, 12 in the first quarter. Olsen had nine, Brad Pugh, Justin McClain and Troy Howard six each, Joel Niccolazzi four, Anderson three, and Bryce Hilzer two. Bain also had five steals.

On Tuesday, the Mules surged ahead 22-11 in the first quarter but went cold in the second to allow Pe Ell back into the game.

Troy Howard put in two free throws with six seconds left to give the Mules a three point lead, and Pe Ell's three point shot at the buzzer bounced off the rim to give the Mules their first win of the season.

Olsen led Mule scoring with 27 points. Bain had 13, Howard 11, Anderson nine, Pugh eight, and Hilzer two. Pugh and Bain each had six assists, and Anderson had 10 rebounds.

Hank Robinson had 32 points for the Trojans.
