Do you enjoy gardening and want to know more? Do you enjoy people and like to share your gardening knowledge with others? Would solving plant and insect problems appeal to you? If so, Washington State University Extension in Cowlitz County is offering Master Gardener Volunteer training starting this Fall in the Longview/Kelso area.
WSU Extension specialists, faculty and other knowledgeable instructors will present 15 sessions covering in-depth community gardening topics from edible and ornamental plants to composting and environmental issues, from plant health care to problem identification and management. The day time training sessions start October 7 and continue on the first and third Tuesdays of the month through May 9, 2009.
In return for the intensive training, WSU Master Gardener Volunteers are required to donate 90 hours of educational public service during the two years following training. Volunteer opportunities are designed to meet the needs and interests of volunteers and the community. There is a $150 fee for the training that includes the “Sustainable Gardening” Master Gardener Textbook and other WSU Extension publications.
The WSU Master Gardener program offers ongoing educational opportunities, time for fun and sharing of gardening information, and a chance to provide a unique service of unbiased horticulture information to the community.
