Public hearing set on agency sponsorship

A public hearing regarding the future sponsorship of the Southwest Washington Agency on Aging and Disabilities (SWAAD) has been scheduled for September 23 from 1- 4 p.m. at the River Street Meeting Room in Cathlamet.

SWAAD is the federally designated Agency on Aging for southwest Washington. The agency funds services for older persons and adults with disabilities and serves the counties of Clark, Cowlitz, Klickitat, Skamania, and Wahkiakum. The governments of these five counties have formed the Southwest Washington Council of Governments on Aging and Disabilities, and the Council is petitioning the Department of Social & Health Services (DSHS) to become the new sponsor of SWAAD.

The hearing gives the public the opportunity for comment. Copies of the Council’s petition will be available at the hearing. Comments can also be made in writing. Written comments can be faxed to 360-407-0304 or e-mailed to goldsdl@dshs.wa.gov and must be received by 5 p.m. on September 29, 2008. The facility is fully accessible. Requests for a signer or interpreter can be made by calling SWAAD at 1-888-637-6060.
