Island burglary investigation leads to four arrests

Successful investigation of a Puget Island burglary led to the arrest of four persons last weekend.

Two Cathlamet men were charged in connection with burglary, and two Longview residents were charged with possession of stolen property and illegal possession of the drugs. The investigation is continuing, and charges may be filed against two Cathlamet women also involved in the case.

Two East Little Island residents reported returning to their home from a Friday afternoon outing and finding someone had broken into their residence and stolen jewelry. A trail of blood showed that at least one burglar had sustained a cut from smashing a door window with a rock.

While Deputy Sheriff was on the scene investigating, the sheriff’s office received a tip that two men were involved in the burglary, and they and a female friend were trying to leave the area. Officers were able to locate quickly the woman and one man. They followed leads and later arrested the second man and contacted another woman who had taken jewelry to a Longview residence where she had traded it for $60 and some methamphetamine.

Grasseth and other officers, including Longview police, obtained and served a search warrant at the Longview residence. They found a man and a woman there, and they found jewelry in various parts of the house, including a ring on one suspect’s finger, and they also found methamphetamine.

Officers learned the male occupant of the Longview house was wanted on a warrant from Lewis County, and they found items taken in a burglary which Kelso police are investigating.
