Bald Eagle plans add to activities

The 27th Annual Bald Eagle Festival is just over week away and the plans continue to develop.

The Cathlamet City Dock will hold a dance on July 18 beginning at 7 p.m. to kick off the event. The band “Quick Release” from Astoria will play country and 1980's music.

Saturday morning, from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., will be the Kiwanis pancake breakfast at the Elochoman Slough Marina, $5 for those six years and over. Five and under are free.

The Bald Eagle Challenge two mile fun run/walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the north end of the Puget Island Bridge. Anyone interested has until July 12 to pre-register. However, participants can register that morning beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. at the top of Columbia Street. Promptly following the parade, the public is encouraged to gather in front of the Scarborough Building for a community picture to be taken at 12:30 p.m. by Dimmick Photography.

This year’s theme, “Art from the Heart,” will feature art shows at either end of Main Street. One show will be at the former fire hall and the other will be held at the Julia Butler-Hansen house. Both shows will feature local artists and will be open from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

In the parking lot of the Bank of the Pacific will be activities for children beginning at 1 p.m. The popular children’s game “Money in the Hay” will again be available.

On Saturday night, the Wahkiakum Community Network will present the River Jordan Most Tribute Concert, a drug and alcohol free event, featuring four different bands. The concert will be held at John C. Thomas Middle School and doors open at 5 p.m.

There will be new vendors and new activities to keep people in town until the sun sets. The “Floating Glass Balls,” a bluegrass band, will perform on Saturday night at the Marina beginning at 7 p.m. to be followed by a colorful fireworks display sponsored by the Bank of the Pacific.
