Nelson receives UW award

Former Cathlamet resident Jacob Nelson received the Bob Bandes Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching at the University of Washington College of Computer Science and Engineering graduation ceremony last Saturday.

The award goes to a graduate teaching assistant recognized for instructional work in the college's classes. Students commented that Nelson shared experience in industry with them and worked long hours in the lab helping them save their projects from "abject failure."

Nelson is a 1996 graduate of Wahkiakum High School and 2000 from Pacific Lutheran University. He is pursuing a doctorate degree at the UW and is interning this summer for the second year at Google in Mountain View, Calif. He is the son of Rick and Mary Ann Nelson of Cathlamet.
