At the June meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, Jerry Pedersen of the Kiwanis club told the board about the upcoming golf tournament July 12 at the Skyline Golf Course in Cathlamet. He said it is their biggest fundraiser of the year. “All proceeds go to the scholarship fund for seniors at Wahkiakum High School,” he said.
“Just about everyone who enters the tournament walks away with some kind of a prize,” he said. Those who don’t have the ability to be a sponsor perhaps can donate a door prize.
“It’s quite an event. It draws people from out of the community, people have a real good time and I think we could get a lot of good publicity for our community.”
He asked for sponsors and said if anyone has questions, they can contact Carol Danker, Kiwanis Secretary.
Bill Stillings of Wahkiakum on the Move (WOTM) said the program has been around since 2005 and has been a success. He said when WOTM started they were providing rides to approximately 30 people a month.
This year, he said, approximately 100 people use WOTM a week. Stillings said one of their goals is they hope to provide more services to more people. He said last year, WOTM began to provide Medicaid services to clients. He said they have traveled as far north as Seattle and as far south as Salem to provide specialized medical trips for people.
Linda Barth told the board that the Bald Eagle Committee will meet in two weeks at the Scarborough Building at 5:30. Things are coming together, she said. She said just about all the entertainment has been lined up along with some surprises. The next Chamber meeting will be July 8, 2008.
