Candidates fill out election ballots

With three candidates filing for District 1 Wahkiakum County Commissioner, voters in that district will have a primary election.

Candidates for public offices on this fall's election ballots filed for office last week.

District 1 incumbent George Trott had announced he wouldn't seek re-election. Filing for the position were Bill Coons, Lisa Marsyla and Wally Wright. Coons and Marsyla filed as Democrats and Wright as a Republican. Under Washington's new Top Two Primary, the two with the highest tallies in the primary will advance to the general election.

County Commissioner Dan Cothren has filed for re-election to represent District 2 on the board of commissioners; he is running as an Independent. Also filing for the position was Wayne Flohr, a Democrat.

Wahkiakum PUD Commissioner Larry Reese has filed for re-election to represent District 1 on the PUD board of commissioners. PUD commissioners are non-partisan. He is unopposed.

Incumbent Superior Court Judge Mike Sullivan filed for re-election to a four-year term.

Filing for Democrat party precinct committee officers were Krist Novoselic, Deep River; Steve Puddicombe, Grays River, Esther Gregg, Rosburg/Altoona; Susan M. O'Connor, Skamokawa; Hans York, Elochoman; DiAnne Knudsen, Rosedale; Kay Cochran, Columbia; Mike McAvoy, East Puget Island; Coons, West Puget Island; Fred A. Johnson, South Cathlamet, and George F. Hanigan, North Cathlamet.

Filing for Republican precinct committee officers were Sulema Zerr, Grays River; Earl Johnson, Rosburg/Altoona; Claudia Rua, Elochoman; A. Lorranine Woodside, Rosedale; Jerry Hogan and Margaret J. "Peg" Miller, Columbia; Len Lindsley, East Puget Island, and Patricia J. Phillips, South Cathlamet.
