Puget Island resident Lisa Marsyla on Monday announced she would be a Democrat candidate for Wahkiakum County commissioner.
Marsyla will be a candidate for the Commissioner District 1 position on the board of commissioners, now held by her ex-husband, George Trott.
Another Puget Island resident, Bill Coons, has also announced he is running for the position as a Democrat.
"I have chosen to run for this office because I believe my finance and accounting skills will be an asset to the county," Marsyla said in a statement faxed to The Eagle on Monday.
"While I have not been active in the local party for several years, I have been quite active previously with the extensive participation in May elections for Mark Doumit to the state legislature and senate. Additionally, I worked with my father and his election as a county commissioner."
Marsyla has a bachelor degree in accounting and has operated her own accounting business for 14 years. She served as auditor for Wahkiakum PUD for 5 years. She was a participant in the opening of the Hotel Cathlamet Assisted Living Center and was administrator there for some time. She has also held managerial positions with Tektronix, Inc., and was an accounting instructor at Clackamas Community College for 13 years.
