Mule golfers head to state

The Wahkiakum Mule golf team won its second consecutive district championship and competed in the state Class 2B tournament this week.

In Tuesday's opening round at Lake Padden Golf Course, Bellingham, Cody Olsen and Cole Claussen had tied for 17th with 88s; both advanced to Wednesday's final round. Not advancing were Chase Fritzie 97, Andrew Weiler 108 and Justin McClain 120.

Final results came after The Eagle had gone to press.

The Mules carded 713 strokes in winning the district title last week. Raymond followed with 798, North Beach 866, and South Bend 880.

Olsen rallied on the last day to win the medal with 173. First round leader Claussen placed second with 173. Also finishing in the top 10 for the Mules and qualifying for state were 3. Weiler 177, 7. Fritzie 188 and 10. McClain 199.

The Mules finished the season with a perfect record in head to head matches; they are 40-0 over two seasons. Bill Olsen is coach.
