24th Great White Tail Run this weekend

The Wahkiakum 4-H Council will hold the 24th Annual Great White Tail Run this Saturday.

The run is a family event with course distances of 10k, 5k and two miles to walk or run at the Julia Butler Hansen National Wildlife Refuge between Cathlamet and Skamokawa. Registration and packet pick-up starts at Skamokawa Vista Park at 8:30 a.m. with the run starting at 10 a.m.

Awards will be given to the top female and male in the 10k and 5k and ribbons are given to the top three places in each age division for all three distances. The registration fees for day of run are $12 without a shirt and $25 with a shirt. There is a family and youth group discount of the first two entries of immediate family or group at regular price and each additional entry is $3 off regular price.

This year, a dog division has been added. For an added $1, participants bringing their dog can compete for awards in this division. Socialized dogs only of at least six months of age with current vaccinations will be allowed. Dogs must be leashed at all times and must stay on the designated run course. Female dogs in heat will not be permitted and officials reserve the right to refuse entry to any dog whose behavior or health could be dangerous. Bags will be provided for cleaning up after a dog.

All proceeds will benefit the Wahkiakum 4-H program. For more information, contact coordinator Carol Ervest at 360-465-2275.
