Election: Reese in, Trott bowing out

Two more local political office holders have announced their plans for this fall's election.

County Commissioner George Trott, District 1, has announced he will not seek re-election to a third term.

Trott said Tuesday that he feels ready to move on to new work and projects.

"It's time to get some new blood in there," he said. "I'm getting too cynical."

District 1 includes Puget Island and South Cathlamet precincts.

Trott was elected as an Independent. Islander Bill Coons has announced his candidacy as a Democrat.

Larry Reese, the District 1 member of the Wahkiakum PUD board of commissioners, also announced this week that he is planning to run for a second six-year term. The position is non-partisan.

Filing for local offices runs June 2-6 in the Wahkiakum County Auditor's Office.

Positions on the ballot will also include:

* Wahkiakum County Commissioner District 2--Incumbent Dan Cothren is seeking re-election to a fourth term as an Independent; Wayne Flohr, a Wahkiakum Health and Human Services counselor, has also declared his candidacy for the position as a Democrat.

* Superior Court Judge for Wahkiakum County and Pacific County-- 4 year term, Michael Sullivan, incumbent. The position is non-partisan.

Because of a recent US Supreme Court decision, Washington will use its voter approved Top Two Primary this August.

County Auditor Diane Tischer has said that independent candidates no longer have to have a nominating convention; they will just file like other candidates and will be on the primary election ballot.
