Astoria musicians scheduled for Pioneer Church concert

Trillium, a chamber trio formed from members of Astoria’s Friday Musical Club, is scheduled to play the first half of a 7 p.m., May 10 performance at Cathlamet’s Pioneer Church performance hall.

Ann Lederer on piano, Janet Bowler on flute, and Judy Woodward on cello have selected music from modern to ancient, from light to serious. The program includes Pastorale by Vivaldi, Oblivon by Piazolla, and Pleasant Moments by Scott Joplin.

Soprano Laurie Drage and her accompanist on piano, Jacquetta Purtle, are also from Astoria and hold membership in the music club. The duo round out the evening’s musical offering at the church’s public performance hall. The songs will include “All I Want” from My Fair Lady; “How High the Moon” from Biloxi Blues; and “My Man’s Gone Now” from Porgy and Bess.

According to Bowler, the Pioneer Church is a natural setting for the musicians. She relates, “The acoustics in the hall are bright and alive.”

This concert is the first in the 2008 series of the Pioneer Community Association’s “Monthly Medley of Music”. Adult tickets are $12.50, youth tickets are $8 and are available at Trillium Books or by calling 849-4328. Remaining seats sold the night of the performance.
