Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
One of the first photographs in the Appelo Archive Center's elders photo project is of Glenrose Hedlund, long time resident of Deep River who has her own small museum in her home. The Appelo Archives Center has launched a new photography project honoring elders and seniors in the Naselle/Grays River Valley area.
Audrey Wirkkala, Archive Center staff, is a well known photographer in the area and with a new camera, she has begun taking photographs of seniors and elders to add to the extensive photo collection already at the Center. Wirkkala will be visiting her subjects in their homes to take portrait photographs of them in their own surroundings. These photographs will belong to the Archive Center, but prints can be ordered directly from the Center. They will be added to the current collection, then presented at a Photography Exhibit at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum in the spring of 2009.
If anyone has a photograph they would like to donate to the Project at the Center, or if anyone would like to have a portrait taken of a favorite elder in the area, contact the Archive Center at (360) 484-7103.
