Huckabee is GOP caucus favorite
Wahkiakum County Republicans overwhelmingly supported Gov. Mike Huckabee in their February 9 caucuses.
Party spokesperson Don Fullerton reported February 13 that of the 48 Republicans who participated in local caucuses, Huckabee drew 14 of the 28 possible delegates. Senator John McCain received four, Rep. Ron Paul two, and four were undecided.
"This was the biggest turnout for our caucuses in 20 years," Fullerton commented. "People were interested in the process."
The Republican race statewide was very close, McCain led with 25.6 percent of the delegates; Huckabee followed with 23.3 percent, and Paul had 21.4 percent. Gov. Mitt Romney, who announced he was dropping out of the presidential race, picked up 15.3 percent of the delegates.
The Republicans are allocating 51 percent of their delegates based on the February 19 primary election; caucuses will determine 49 percent of the delegates.
