Election - McCain, Clinton draw primary vote

In initial counting, Wahkiakum County voters favored Republican John McCain and Democrat Hillary Clinton in Tuesday's statewide Presidential Primary Election.

In the Republican primary, McCain drew 209 votes, 48.72 percent of the total. Following were Mitt Romney, 92 votes for 21.45 percent; Mike Huckabee, 89 votes for 20.75 percent, and Ron Paul, 29 votes, 7.76.

Republicans will allocate a portion of delegates to the statewide convention based on the primary results.

In the Democrat primary, Clinton drew 264 votes, 49.72, with Barack Obama following with 248 votes, 48.7 percent John Edwards received 11 votes, 2.07 percent. Democrats are allocating their convention delegates according to voting at local caucuses held February 9.

Another 105 votes were to be counted Wednesday morning as The Eagle went to press.
