Students raise funds for heart association

On January 22, John C. Thomas Middle School held the Seventh Annual Hoops for Heart competition.

Over 35 students were involved, said coordinator Mary Moonen. Each participant went out in the community and raised money for the American Heart Association. For this they won prizes depending on how much money they raised, and they got to play basketball.

Weather it was 3 on 3, or just shooting foul shots, they all had a great time! Plus it got them out of class for an afternoon! The competition was held as an assembly that lasted from 1-3 p.m.

The total money raised was over $300 dollars. The bulk of this money came from Mike Mouliot, who raised over $100 dollars.

As a result we had six winning teams for the 3-on-3, girls and boys who placed 1st through 3rd. For the girls we had Mrs.Badger, Mrs. Merz, and Mr. Johns in first place, Brieanna Olsen, Brianne Helms, and Ellee Crouse in second place, and Madison LaBerge, Maya Stanley, and Jem Dyer in third place.

For the boys we had Lars Blix, Peter Weiler, Steven Doumit who took first; Wyatt Parker, Brett Chaput, and Morice Hoven took second; and Michael McKinley, Tylor Russell, and Mark Cothren took third.

The two other competitions were Foul Shot and Hot Shot; we had two winners in each.

The Hot Shot winner was Lars Blix for the boys Ashley Silva for the girls.

For the Foul Shot, Peter Weiler won for the boys and Madison LaBerge won for the girls.

Thank you for all the support and help from the community, we raised a lot of money for a good cause and had a great time doing it!
