Bradwood Landing Fund announces local grants

Wahkiakum Community Foundation announced Monday that the Bradwood Landing Fund at the Foundation has determined their grants for distribution in April.

The grants are: Wahkiakum County Fair, $5000 for construction; 4-H program, $3,000 for operating support; Naselle School District , $5,000 for sports uniforms; Wahkiakum Youth Baseball, $2,400 for equipment; Skamokawa Grange, $3,500 for construction; and the Julia Butler Hansen Heritage Center , $1,500 for Girls in Government Camp and education materials.

The Bald Eagle Day and the Covered Bridge Celebration events each received $1,000 in sponsorship funding. The Wahkiakum Chamber will also receive $500 for holiday events and the Wahkiakum County Food Bank will receive $500.

The Community Foundation received $10,000 which paid off the loan balance on the renovation of the Julia Butler Hansen Heritage Center . In 2007, the Wahkiakum County Sheriff's Department was granted funding for a county wide radio study at $37,000. In addition, Bradwood Landing supports the Community Resource Center in the Scarborough Building in Cathlamet as a free meeting room for all nonprofits in the area. The center is located on the main floor and can be scheduled through the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce office in the same building.

A presentation of these grants will be made in April at a public reception in the Community Resource Center.

Bradwood Landing has made an annual pledge to the Foundation of $100,000. To date, $200,000 has been donated to the community. Upon construction of the Bradwood Landing plant, and when production begins, that pledge will reach $500,000. A portion of each gift is restricted to emergency response equipment and the balance will be granted to community nonprofits annually. Grants are determined by a committee that includes representatives of the foundation, the community and representatives from the company. This is the same manner in which all donor advised funds are administered at the Community Foundation. Over 25 funds at the foundation have been set up to support charitable activities in the SW Washington area.
