Mules top Trojans, Panthers

Bobby Helms applied defensive pressure as the Mules used a press to take control of their game with White Pass last week.

The Wahkiakum Mule boys basketball team picked up two Central League wins this past week.

On January 18, the Mules overwhelmed the Pe Ell Trojans 76-44.

The Mules led only 14-12 after one quarter but outscored their hosts 23-12 in the second to take control of the game.

Josh Rongey led the charge, scoring 27 points. Tyler Benson added 16, Bobby Helms 12, Cody Olsen seven, Hayden Miles six, Drew WIndsor four, Tyson Bain 2 and Chris Diaz and Chase Fritzie one each.

Benson had 13 rebounds, and Helms made five steals.

Cody Olsen put up a three point shot in the Mules win over White Pass last week.

On January 16, the Mules trailed at halftime but took control in the third quarter with a full-court and later half court press to beat the visiting White Pass Panthers 78-55.

The Mules led 13-9 after one quarter; White Pass led 31-28 at halftime. The Mules outscored the Panthers 26-6 in the third quarter.

Olsen led the scoring with 20 points. Miles had 17, Rongey 14, Helms 12, Benson seven, Fritzie four and Bain one.

Miles pulled down 16 rebounds, and Benson had 10. Helms had four steals and five assists, and Rongey made nine assists.

The Mules entertained highly ranked Napavine last night (Wednesday). They are at Adna on January 30 and at Mossyrock on February 1.
