PCA receives grant from State Arts Commission

The Pioneer Community Association has received a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.

This $2,000 grant, augmented with a $500 grant from Wahkiakum Community Network and a gift from the estate of Helen Exum, makes it possible for the PCA to bring exceptional music events to the students of Wahkiakum County in 2008.

Joy O’Neal, president of the PCA, along with the other members of the board, has identified youth education and involvement a goal of the association. Pat Reese, the writer of the grant proposals, secured the financial support needed to strengthen this aspect of the PCA mission.

Working closely with school officials and following their direction for preferred ensembles and acceptable performance dates, two groups have been selected. North Star Saxophone Quartet will play at Wahkiakum school auditorium and Kim Angelis and Josef, a duo playing violin and guitar will play at Naselle-Grays River school.

The groups have accepted appearance dates of March and April. Each ensemble will be in Wahkiakum for two days and each will play a Saturday evening performance at the Pioneer Church.
