Mule girls collar Huskies

Whitley Wirkkala drove around a Morton player in the Mules 64-19 win last week. The Wahkiakum Mule girls basketball team overwhelmed the Morton Huskies in a 64-19 game January 9.

The Mules led 19-2 after one quarter and 32-5 at halftime.

Courtney Helms led the scoring with 16 points. Kari Schillios had 10; Shelby Deaton and Tasha Ford each had six; Ashley Helms and Ashley Moore each had five, and Halie Boyce, Whitley Wirkkala, Jordyn Wirkkala and Evelyn Clark each had four.

Deaton had 13 rebounds; J. Wirkkala had six. Boyce made five steals; J. Wirkkala and C. Helms each had three. Boyce, Kristina Heiner, A. Helms and Moore each made three assists.

The Mules made 26 of 62 shots, 42 percent, and 11 of 19 free throws, 58 percent.

The Mules played at White Pass on Tuesday. This week they host Pe Ell tonight (Thursday) and Napavine on Tuesday.
