It is hard to believe, but baseball season is almost here.
In 2007, Wahkiakum Youth Baseball merged with Central Youth Baseball in Longview. Overall, the merger has proven positive with the details between the Wahkiakum organization and Central organization being worked out for the 2008 season.
In order to get the season plans underway, Wahkiakum parents formed a local board which is actively planning the upcoming baseball season.
Adults who want to take an active part in the youth baseball program are encouraged to attend meetings or contact the 2008 board members for more information. The board members for this season include: Central Liaison and Vice President of Wahkiakum Youth Baseball - Lamar Blix 849-4019; Manager Representative - Josh Grasseth, 957-3726; Player Agent - Kevin Patching 795-8779; Treasurer - Nicci Bergseng, 849-4402; Secretary - Holly Pfenniger, 795-0006.
The next baseball meeting is scheduled for today (Thursday) at 6 p.m. in the third floor public meeting room of the Wahkiakum County Courthouse.
Parents and their children are encouraged to turn out for work parties to help get the fields back into condition for the upcoming season. The parties will be advertised.
Last year several teams worked with Tim Abena to get the fields ready for the season.
On average, 85 youth turn out for the youth baseball program each year. Similar numbers of youth are anticipated to play again this year. Parents are encouraged to watch for registration information this February. It is important to register in time to receive time sensitive information related to try outs, team selection, and practice dates.
