WHS presents "Rachel's Challenge" this evening

Wahkiakum High School is hosting a public program this evening, Thursday, to focus on building positive relationships.

Rachel’s Challenge is a program that began after Rachel Scott, a student at Columbine High School was murdered in what has become known as one of the worst mass murders in history. Scott was the first one killed.

According to the Rachel’s Challenge website, audio and video footage of Scott’s life and the tragedy that overtook the Colorado high school captivates student’s attention for one hour in which they learn “positive change in the way they treat others.”

This is followed by an interactive 45-minute session in which teachers and students alike learn how to maintain the energy experienced in the video.

“The training session,” the site says, “teaches the ‘how to’ and ensures that the positive impact will continue.”

The same evening the assembly takes place, one of the Rachel’s Challenge team members speaks in a public forum for parents and community members alike.

The public is invited to attend the evening assembly. It is intended for people to make their own changes in the way they treat people or their children treat people. It begins at 7 p.m. in the WHS Gym.
