Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
St. James Family Center Family Support Services will begin offering monthly parenting groups to the residents of Wahkiakum County on January 14.
Brian McClain, Fatherhood Advocate, will facilitate the fathers’ group and Jenny Gale will facilitate the mothers’ group. Membership is not restricted to fathers and mothers. Aunts, uncles, grandparents or anyone wishing to be a positive role model in a child’s life is encouraged to attend.
Groups will be organized and based on the proven success of the Circle of Parents and Parents Trust for Washington groups. Participants will determine the content of group meetings. Potential topics include better communication with children, coping with stressful situations, discipline, and bonding with children. Guest speakers will also be invited as needed.
The groups will be held at St. James Family Center on January 14 from 6:30-8 p.m., and will continue to meet monthly on the second Monday of each month. Childcare will be available upon request, and a meal will be provided. If you would like more information, or to sign up for child care call 795-8612. More information on the groups can be found at http://www.circleofparents.org or http://www.parenttrust.org.
