Mules stop Comets, overwhelm Trojans

The Wahkiakum Mule boys basketball team picked up wins over the Naselle Comets and Pe Ell Trojans in action this week.

On Tuesday, Pe Ell's Trojans regrouped from storm damage last week that pushed several players and their familes from their homes to travel to Wahkiakum High School where the host Mules rolled to a 91-43 win.

Sophomore Cody Olsen hit seven of 13 shots from three-point range and one from inside the line to lead the scoring with 23 points. Josh Rongey added 19; Hayden Miles, Bobby Helms and Tyler Benson each had nine, Kyle Benson had eight, Chase Fritzie five, Chris Diaz four, Tyson Bain three and Ross Lofstrom two.

Last Saturday, the Mules topped the Naselle Comets to win the KM Trophy.

The Mules jumped to a 24-12 first quarter lead as their press troubled the Comets. They boosed that lead to 46-25 at halftime.

Olsen led the Mule scoring with 22 points. Rongey had 14, Tyler Benson 13, Hayden Miles nine, Drew Windsor seven, Bobby Helms five, Kyle Benson four, Bain 3, and Diaz and Fritzie two each.

Connor Smith led the Comets with 17 points. Austin Burkhalter added 11, Nathan Sultemeier 10, and Kyle Burkhlater and Nick Hines four each.

Last Thursday, the Mules won 57-51 at White Pass.

Rongey led the Mules with 21 points. Olsen had 16, Helms 10, Kyle Benson eight and Tyler Benson two.

Kyle Benson had 12 rebounds and made four assists; Rongey had four steals.

The 4-0 Mules head to Napavine tonight (Thursday) for a game with the top ranked Tigers. In a change from the schedule, the Mules will host the Adna Pirates on December 20; the game was switched to WHS because of storm damage at Adna; the Mules will play at Adna on January 20.
