Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce is holding its third Annual Festival of Trees and is looking for designers to design trees to donate.
For the last two years, local tree designers have donated trees with themes like "Gold Rush", "Mule Tree", and "Fishing by the Fire."
The donated trees will be on display in downtown Cathlamet from November 24 until December 16. Throughout this time, visitors and locals will have the opportunity to view the trees and vote for their favorite as well as bid for the trees in an ongoing silent auction. All proceeds will go to the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce.
Prizes will be awarded to the designers on December 16 for “Best in Show” in each size category.
Over 300 votes for the winning tree were cast last year and the event got widespread regional media attention. The event's first year total of nine trees was surpassed last year by the donation of 16 trees.
Designers win prizes, and those who vote are entered into a drawing to win gift certificates from the chamber for local stores.
