Library addscomputer programs

New programs at the Cathlamet Library can assist students with their homework or the general public in their thirst for knowledge, library staff announced this week.

ProQuest allows the searcher to find information in magazines or newspapers. The program makes it easy to search for subject or an author or a specific story without having to add every little detail. Information can be found with no online magazine subscription needed.

CultureGrams is a program that allows the searcher to find any information in three editions.

World Edition allows the searcher to pick a continent and search for historical or recent information pertaining to the continent.

States Edition allows the searcher to find any information for any state in the nation from the state song to the state dance.

Kid’s edition gives children the opportunity to find information for state reports or just for fun. The information on this section is child comprehensive and makes the learning fun.

Each of the categories in CultureGrams has subcategories; Photo Gallery has a slide show with pictures of daily life and tourism. Famous People describes information about people who live or have lived in the specified area, and Recipe Collection lists native foods and treats people can try at home.

The third program, Auto Repair Reference Center, gives helpful information for individuals working on cars dating as far back as 1945. The searcher simply chooses the year of the vehicle they wish and from a list of the cars can choose the make and model of the car in question. They can find out whether or not there have been any recalls or any mechanical questions.

While none of these programs are accessible at home, they can be accessed at the library. The public is welcome to come and try it out anytime, library volunteer Hilary Baker said.
