Walker Riley wins league cross country race

Wahkiakum Mule Walker Riley won the Class 2b Boys League Championship last Thursday at Castle Rock.

The Mule boys won the team championship, edging White Pass 27-28; they were the only schools to field full teams.

Riley placed first on the five kilometer course in 16:38. His team mates followed in: 6. Jared McEntire 19:15; 7. Jon Murphy 19:24; 8. Kevin O'Connor 19:28; 9. Chris Hokkanen 19:37; 17. Hayden Miles 21:37; 18. Stuart Bosch 22:42; 20. Ben Miles 23:23; 21. Jake Goldsmith 23:35, and 22. Shay Bingham 23:36.

In the girls race, White Pass had the only complete team and tallied 15 points.

Shelby Felton led the Mule girls with a fourth place finish in 23:08. Following were 7. Jasmine Bingham 24:08; 11. Valle Ledtke 26:00, and Ashley Helms 26:04.

The teams compete in the district meet this Saturday. Top finishers and team advance to the state meet November 3 in Pasco.
