Photography exhibitexplores "epic Columbia"

October 25 , 2007

"Views from Home," an exhibit by David Myers will be at the River Life Interpretive Center at Redmen Hall in Skamokawa from November 1 through December 21. It will be open Thursday-Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

The exhibit features photographs of the Columbia River waters and skies, featuring clatsop, Wahkiakum, and Pacific counties. Myers has lived in the Columbia River estuary area since 1970. In his photographs he shares the drama of weather and light. He taught photography at Lower Columbia College and currently teaches at Clatsop Community College.

"The views on the Columbia are at once epic and intimate; big skies and big water, thick with weather-rolling clouds and fog and every form of water and wind," Myers writes.

Myers attended University of California in 1963 and was inspired by an Ansel Adams book. He studied fine arts photography with Dave Bohn and Roger Minic and left Berkeley with a degree in mathematics and an abiding love and commitment to photography. In the 1970s he settled in southwest Washington and collected oral histories and photographs for the Washington State Archives.

A reception for the artist will be held at Redmen Hall on November 10 from 1-3 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
