Commissioners of Port District No. 1 looked at their preliminary budget for 2008 and handled other business when they met last Thursday.
The budget will total around $690,000. The budget for 2008 was $964,850. Revenues and expenditures should remain nearly the same in 2008 as were budgeted for 2007, said Manager Jackie Lea.
The port commission will hold a hearing on its budget in November. Lea said she may also propose increases in moorage rates; this would be discussed at a public meeting.
In other business, the board met in executive session and approved the hiring of a park host to camp at the marina. Commissioners hope the presence of the park host will lessen the rate of vandalism the marina experiences.
Commissioners voted to participate with the Town of Cathlamet in hiring a consultant to advise in analyzing proposed large scale development of the town waterfront. The port will pay up to $3,600 of an expected $42,000 expense.
