Mules win tournament, two league matches

The Wahkiakum Lady Mule volleyball team won two Central League matches and a weekend tournament in action this past week.

On Tuesday, the Mules won 25-14, 25-19, 25-22 at Mossyrock.

Whitley Wirkkala made seven kills and served 14 points. Shelby Deaton had eight kills, and setter Paige Kehrli made 28 assists.

The Mules claimed the championship of the Raymond Tournament on Saturday.

They started in pool play by beating Tacoma Baptist 25-13, King's West 25-18, Ilwaco 25-2, Willapa Valley 25-18, and Mt. Rainier 25-11 and losing 20-23 to Raymond in a game called on time limit.

In the semifinals, they eliminated Tacoma Baptist 25-13, 25-18.

They met Raymond in the championship and won 20-25, 25-19, 15-11.

Sara Jespersen served 42 points and had 28 kills, Coach Patty Anderson said. Sarah Doumit made 22 kills; Kehrli had 21 assists, and Brandi Arness and Brittney Robbins played great defense, she said.

Last Thursday, the Mules held off visiting Napavine to win in five games, 23-25, 25-16, 25-19, 23-25, 15-10.

The Mules are 2-0 in league play, 7-0 overall.

They entertain White Pass tonight (Thursday) and Adna next Tuesday.
