The Kiwanis Club of Cathlamet was recognized as one of the distinguished clubs in the organization during 2005-06, club members learned at the organization’s recent international convention.
Club member Paul Aldinger, who is the retiring lieutenant governor for the region, said the club was one of 45 internationally to receive the distinguished club designation. The honor was based on activities and the addition of new members.
Two officers, Secretary/treasurer Carol Danker and President Rick Nelson, were awarded distinguished club service pins.
Kiwanis clubs involve members in activities to benefit youth. Clubs in the region support Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland. Locally, they sponsor service clubs for high and middle school students, and they raise funds for scholarships for high school graduates.
During the winter, the club meets at St. Catherine Catholic Church at 6 p.m. the first Tuesday of the month and at 7:15 a.m. at the Riverview Restaurant on the third Tuesday.
The club will install officers at its October 2 meeting: President Don Conway, Vice-president Jim Reed, Secretary/treasurer Danker, and members of its board of directors.
People interested in more information can contact those or other club members or attend a meeting.
