October 4 , 2007
The Board of County Commissioners for Wahkiakum recently appointed a five-member Johnson Park Advisory Board to administer operation, maintenance, activities and rules of conduct for the park, formerly known as Rosburg School.
New board members are Norm Bolton, Timothy Virkkala, Becky Erickson, all of Rosburg, and Trudy Fredrickson and Judy Durrah of Grays River. Ex-officio members appointed at the board's first meeting are Events Coordinator Penny Gregory, Secretary Thea Pyle, and Treasurer Barbara Rose.
Regular meetings of the advisory board will be held every fourth Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m., in the Grange Computer Center near the back entrance of the building.
The board will also meet monthly every second Thursday throughout the remainder of 2007 to clear up a large amount of start-up business; the next meeting will be held October 11.
On the agenda will be a preliminary budget for Johnson Park, and formation of citizen committees to explore and implement possible uses of the park building and grounds. Some suggested programs are sports, yoga and exercise activities, entertainment events, a Westend Art Guild, educational/vocational classes, and various youth activities. The board encourages public input and participation to ensure opportunities for all citizens in the area.
