Fair manager named

Puget Island resident Muriel Prestegard was hired Tuesday as 2007 Wahkiakum County Fair Manager.

Fair board chairman Bill Coons announced the hiring, adding that the county board of commissioners, while studying ways to cut county expenses, had agreed to hire a manager full time for six months.

"Muriel's position begins today," Coons said Tuesday. "I expect to be able to demonstrate that we need her for 12 months after this in order to prepare for the other events that we will hold at the fairgrounds next year in order for the fair to become self-sufficient.

"Please join me in welcoming Muriel to her new position and in thanking the commissioners for supporting the fair!" he said.
