The Wahkiakum Mule girls took on the Willapa Valley Vikings Tuesday in the last varsity game to be played in Valley Tenoski Gym, with Valley winning 73-41.
The Mules play next Monday, 2:30 p.m., in Rochester, against the loser of the Raymond vs. Toutle Lake contest which will be played Friday, 8 p.m., in Montesano.
Two losses knock a team out of the district tournament. The top five teams go to state.
The Mules lost their regular season finale last Thursday 48-36 at Morton, dropping them into a tie with the Adna Pirates for the sixth place in league standings and league's last berth in the district tournament.
The Pirates and Mules met Saturday in Toutle Lake to play for the berth, and the Mules won 67-54.
Leading 20-17 after one quarter, the Mules outscored Adna 18-13 in the second quarter to lead 38-30 at halftime. After an even third quarter, the Mules made shots in the fourth quarter to outscore the Pirates 16-11.
Freshmen Jordyn Wirkkala scored 13 points and Evelyn Clark 11 to lead the Mule scoring. Haley Boyce scored eight, Courtney Helms seven, Shelby Deaton and Sarah Jesperson six each, Whitley Wirkkala and Stephanie Johnson five each, and Christina Heiner and Rachel Fudge three each.
Clark and Deaton each had 12 rebounds.
