Saddle Mountain State Natural Area reopened to the public earlier this month after an extended closure due to safety repairs. The park closed in 2021 due to trail and footbridge damage and a failed restroom, and reopened September 6. Crews repaired the 2.7-mile trail to the summit and rerouted at least one section to make the trek safer for visitors and easier for rescue teams. STILL PRETTY DRY--This past week saw temperatures back up in the high 80s, so it was pretty doggone toasty for September but things cooled down over the weekend; just mid 70s here, so that was quite nice. According to the National Fire Protection Association, heating equipment is one of the leading causes of home fires during the winter months, and as the temperature drops outside, homeowners may begin using their wood fireplaces. OLYMPIA – People over the age of 65 face the greatest risk of dying in a fire, according to a recent report published by the U.S. Fire Administration. As people age, they may become unable to react quickly in emergency situations, or may take medication that slows their ability to make rapid decisions.
