8 WHS graduate Samantha Boyce was recently named Female Athlete of the Year at Lower Columbia College. Boyce, who excelled in Mule sports, competed for the Red Devil basketball and softball teams. Boyce has had offers to play softball at several colleges but is still weighing her options. Several women on the Wahkiakum Mules track and field team qualified for the district meet at last Friday’s Central 2B Sub-district meet in Kalama, but the season ended for all the Mule men. According to Coach Eric Hansen, athletes had to have a top six finish in field events or the 1600m and 3200m races, or be a top four finisher in a lane event to qualify for district. The District 4 Championship game between the Mules and the Pirates was originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon but was postponed because of rain. The day changed, but the rain didn’t. The Wahkiakum Mules baseball team began postseason play on Saturday with two wins, which secured a trip to a regional state game on May 20. When they beat Napavine on Tuesday in the semifinals, they reserved a spot in the Southwest District 4 Championship game.
