The Naselle Comets won their first two games in the State 1B baseball tournament on Saturday, and will face number one ranked DeSales in the semifinals at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 26 at Johnson-O’Brien Stadium in Ephrata. The Wahkiakum Mules track team joined 10 other teams at the Central 2B League Championship in Kalama on Friday, May 12. The Mules took ninth place in boys competition with 20 points, but did not place in girls competition. Landon Nielsen, a senior on the team, was the only qualifier for the District 4 Championship, which takes place at W.F. West in Chehalis on Friday, May 19. After losing a 1B District 4 game 4-3 to Mossyrock on May 11, the Comets had to win a 1B District 1/2/4 crossover game on May 13 to continue their season. They got the win, beating Rainier Christian 23-0. The Comets will face Crosspoint in a loser out game on May 20 at noon at Larson Playfield in Moses Lake....

Wahkiakum’s season ended with a loss to Forks in the first round of the district baseball tournament this weekend, but the Mules didn’t go down without a fight. “The game was a good one, back and forth throughout,” Coach Garrett Radcliffe said.
