The travel weary Wahkiakum Mules golf team was in dire need of some home cooking and good weather, and they had it at their March 24 match at Skyline Golf Course. Conditions were perfect, 65 degrees with a soft breeze. The thought was the first group with Wahkiakum’s Logan LaBerge and Toutle Lake’s Zach Swanson would duke it out for first place. We were held to just two hits, singles from MJ Neves and Amaya Jones in the first inning. The Wahkiakum Mules golf team last week traveled to Chehalis where the host Adna Pirates handed the Mules their first loss of the season, 215-231. The Mules picked up two wins with the loss as both Toutle Lake and Winlock fielded incomplete appearances. The Lady Mules softball team hosted Adna on Monday and lost 16-4. Breyonna Montgomery held Adna to one hit through the first three innings and struck out six Adna hitters, but couldn’t keep the Pirate bats at bay forever. Senior Ellie Wiltse-Hiatt was the only member of the Wahkiakum cross country team to qualify for the 2B District 4 District Meet, which took place on Saturday in Rainier.
